FROM THE JUDGES...
"We wanted to express our thanks to all members of the AGWPJA for entering the first quarter contest. With each contest, the entry numbers and membership is growing and each
category is getting stronger and more competitive. What a testament to the creativity of AG members from around the world!
To the first place winners, WOW the images are just stunning!
Congratulations to all of the winners in each category. You all should know that each category was filled with amazing images and the winners are extraordinary."
Getting Ready
Category Description:
Entries which spontaneously capture the prepping, grooming, arranging, outfitting, and anticipation before the ceremony.
Judges' Comments:
"We actually saw some guys being snuck into these entries -- kudos to the photographers who take the time out of the bride's day to document the groom as well."
|
Ceremony
Category Description:
Images that capture guests and participants throughout pre-ceremony, vow-exchange, and receiving line activity.
Judges' Comments:
"Several entries in this category captured a beautiful sense of place with their overall images of ceremonies. Other images were moment driven and display intense emotions between
couples. Ceremonies can seem dull and often times we come away with average images. The top 20 entries show that ceremonies can be anything but average if we just look, anticipate and
stay focused during this portion of the wedding day."
|
Reception
Category Description:
Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges' Comments:
"The Reception category is filled with moments and imagination. It was definitely one of the hardest to judge and those who placed should know that they beat hundreds of entries."
|
Details (Found)
Category Description:
Entries that encompass tighter shots of the day's small slices AS THEY WERE FOUND. This category is NOT for set-up detail shots. It's important that images submitted in this category
don't contain content controlled by the photographer.
Judges' Comments:
"Details can be found everywhere and this category didn't disappoint. The details are becoming more storytelling (like the first place image), fun and quirky. Several images were
disqualified for being "set up" by the photographer."
|
Off-Camera Lighting
Category Description:
Images that exemplify the use of artificial light, electronic flash or video lights. Images must showcase a moment and nothing else (no portraits, details, etc.).
Judges' Comments:
"This category continues to challenge photographer's every time it comes around. To those who are refining and experimenting with the use of off-camera flash congratulations on taking
your photography to another level."
|
Creative Portrait
Category Description:
Portraits that employ a fresh and artistic approach to portraiture in capturing the bride, groom, bridal party, family, friends, children and/or any other posed wedding party member.
The key in this category is to be creative with your subjects.
Judges' Comments:
"The Creative Portrait category has been taken to another level with the first place winner executing a well thought-out story in one image. We noticed several entries using the
composite image technique. It's an interesting concept (and not easy to pull off) and one we intend on integrating into some of our own portrait sessions. Thanks for reintroducing us
to this technique!"
