Reception: Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges Comment: Deep, dark and mysterious...not so typical for a reception but makes for a great image! The muted colors work well against the shock of light spilling into the room.
Judges Comment: This is a great moment and full of energy! The bride and groom really stand out against the blurred and highly saturated reception venue. A well captured moment and good use of added saturation.
Judges Comment: What an excellent angle for this parting shot! The joy on the bride's face really brings the image to life. The smoke from the sparklers worked for you as it wrapped around the couple but it could benefit from some edge burning.
Judges Comment: The splashes of light highlight the overall reception site, bride and groom during their first dance. The sliver of light across the bride's back as well as just a hint across the groom's cheek keep them from being overwhelmed by the vastness of their venue. The orange tone and heavy burning all across the image forces your eye to remain on the couple.
Judges Comment: The muted sepia tones plays nicely across this delicate moment. It's a traditional moment played out in most weddings but there is just enough light on the groom's face to show how content he is. The highlight on the top left side of the image is distracting and could use a highlight burn.
Judges Comment: This stark offbeat image makes you want to follow the girl as she dashes off of your computer screen. Her sheer joy in the moment is showed off by stripping out any background alleviating possible distractions for your eye.
Judges Comment: A unique texture has been used on the image and it works well with the saturation and tone. There is a lot to look at and I'm glad the photographer didn't put texture across the bride & grooms face. It's hard to know where the line is when using saturation, vignetting and textures all in the same image. This image is on the verge of too much, but thankfully the photographer stopped adding and decided enough was enough.
Judges Comment: The photographer has captured a great overall and sense of place. There's good separation between the fireworks and the horizon which provides a clean sky for the fireworks to to hang in. Lots of details are kept throughout the image and it offers a story-line we can all step into.
Judges Comment: The small boy stands out as a sea of women pass him by. The figure on the right side of the frame helps to force your eye down to the boys questioning face. By burning in the left side of the image, it allows you to go directly to the child's face and then move through the rest of the image.
Judges Comment: This image has a fun & light feel to it almost like a lifestyle advertisement. The photographer kept all the detail in the white cake and layered the bride & groom behind the scene. A "C" shape is created by burning the top, left and bottom of the image. It keeps your eye weighted on the left without losing the people in the background.
Judges Comment: Great capture! Where's the series of the bride strangling whoever did that to her? I would have like to seen a bit more ambient background information.
Judges Comment: A nice layered moment is filled with a well-placed off-camera light to help bring this moment together. The angle of the image works well with the columns and cloth on the bride's dress but if the photographer could have moved a couple of more inches lower and they would have gotten the bride's entire dress and the little girl's feet.
Judges Comment: A good vignette on the top and bottom really helps make this scene feel like a warm party that springs out of the darkness. Highlighting the clouds with a bit of warmth keeps the tone of the image within the same range.
Judges Comment: Fog machines can play havoc with your focus & flash but thankfully you captured the moment before it enveloped them. The blue tone helps keep definition in the smoke as it rolls across the floor. The bride would probably love the photographer if they liquified some of the back bulge.
Judges Comment: Excellent moment capturing the splash and the anticipation of the other boy jumping into the water. The de-saturated colors work nicely but a little more skin tone in the kid's faces may help reflect the energy and happiness the kids are experiencing.
Judges Comment: The de-saturation and moody tones elevate this portrait. It's an honest, direct portrait with no attempt to pose or glam up the bride. The white strip across the top of the frame could stand to be cropped out.
Judges Comment: I want some of what they're drinking;) The photographer didn't just focus on the bride and groom but found a little moment that'll make anyone smile along. Burning down the background and edges helps to focus your eye and stay engaged in the moment.
Judges Comment: I'm not certain what else was in the original image but the photographer did a nice job of creating a dramatic photograph. The bride's dress floats in the darkness and provides a nice balance.
