Reception: Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges Comment: Bravo! The repetition of graphics and size of the lit subjects in the frame skillfully moves your eye across this image. The use of artificial lights (set up by photographer, venue or lighting crew) really makes this pop. The cake is a tad bright but otherwise an amazing image!
Judges Comment: The photographer successfully captured the moment and energy in this wonderful, full of life image. The B&W toning and added grain / texture gives it a P32 (T-Max) +1 film look.
Judges Comment: The graceful image of the couple floating above the city is lovely. They're separated well from the background courtesy of an off-camera or video light. Their faces are too hot and cyan, burn em' down and warm em' up and the image is complete.
Judges Comment: Superb toning, complimented by a textured overlay, accent this quiet moment.
Judges Comment: What's so funny? I wanna hear that joke! Great grab as the groomsmen walk through the scene.
Judges Comment: A nice moment during the first dance that is focused by overexposing the background, perhaps some large windows on either side of the frame? I would suggest a slight highlight burn across the entire upper-third to "close" the top of the frame.
Judges Comment: I'd like to see a photograph of this whole location, it looks really offbeat especially with everyone wearing pink boa's! Nice capture!
Judges Comment: This image has an early Magnum Photos feel. Quiet, balanced and timeless. Cropping 1/3 off from the right would help the boy appear quicker.
Judges Comment: The dreamy storybook feel of this image draws me in to keep looking for more and more in the frame. It makes me dream of younger years and having the freedom to play and be carefree. The horizontal crop and blurred right side of the frame push your eye to look left where the children are going. A minimal highlight gradient over the sky would help complete the image.
Judges Comment: Off-camera flash illuminates the bride's entourage as she tosses her bouquet. It's a well composed frame and the light helps create movement throughout the image.
Judges Comment: The photographer shot and toned this well and the image feels like it's in three different layers. The foreground where the lanterns are, the couple as they walk in and the background curtains all serve to produce a theatrical scene.
Judges Comment: After capturing the 'safe' shots, it's good to take a chance and go for the more creative or more "you" image. Light and shape is the driving force in this image. It feels like a captured scene and a glimpse into somewhere we weren't invited. I like the warm tone with a splash of blue.
Judges Comment: Nice focus on the furthest joyful face instead of on the drink glasses. The toning serves to move you to the center of the frame and keeps your eye from being distracted by the arms coming in from all sides.
Judges Comment: I really like this image, the symbolism of old and young, a large hand gently holding the smaller hand. I can almost see the little girl's hand holding her dad's when she was younger, I'm sure it'll bring back great memories for the family. The orange tint on the left side of the frame pulls at my eye and may look better de-saturated.
Judges Comment: This venue looks like it's under the stars and not in a large ballroom. One thought would be to crop off the left side of the frame where the distracting, off-camera light is coming from. The light source competes for my eye's attention with the performer's face.
Judges Comment: A simple moment with good composition and dramatic toning makes this "light into dark" an interesting image.
Judges Comment: Staying on your toes during the parting shots is always a good idea, you just never know what people are going to do as they exit. I like the little accent of the one way sign in the background.
Judges Comment: The spotlights all around the frame make your eye bounce from one corner of the frame to another. The cross-process like toning has shifted the color of the scene and makes the image feel slightly off. I would suggest burning down the man on the right along with the white area on the underside of the piano lid.
Judges Comment: The unique toning and color palette originally attracted me into this image but then I'm quickly lost as my eye is immediately taken to the light post. Some small fill, off-camera or video light would have benefited this image and focused the frame on the couple instead of the light post.
Judges Comment: The long exposure captured the fireworks well as the couple takes in the scene. The firework shapes mimic the palm tree's as they sway in the sky. Timing, framing and exposure is everything when dealing with fireworks. Side note, there's a huge difference in the sky tonality and sharpness surrounding the highest set of fireworks, they were clearly processed separately (perhaps from the same image) then pasted into this frame. A little more finesse would have placed this image in the top five.
