Getting Ready: Entries which spontaneously capture the prepping, grooming, arranging, outfitting, and anticipation before the ceremony.
Judges Comment: An emotional, well composed (way to use the entire frame) documentary image that captures a story. The warm b&w keeps the image simple and excludes any distracting colors (like the boutonniere rose) that may take your eye away from the moment.
Judges Comment: A close second is another intimate moment, this time of the bride as she gets ready. The image gives forth a silent strength from the bride and a sense of stillness. Again, by making this a warm toned b&w, it excludes any external color (competing light source) that may take away from the strength of the image.
Judges Comment: A good thought process by the photographer led him (or her) into the closet and was rewarded by strong graphics that draw you into the center of the image. We appreciate the fact that the closet can be seen (not burned to darkness) because the empty racks also tell a story of movement.
Judges Comment: A delightful image of a drifting bride on her way to get married. The veil layers make her look ghost-like as she is captured in the doorway.
Judges Comment: A good moment, funny in a quirky kind of way. We'd suggest burning down the top right corner of the frame which would focus your eye on the moment, not the window.
Judges Comment: An expressive image caught by the photographer before the ceremony. A subtle crop of the right side of the frame (to remove the brown tree trunk) and a little more density would help the image.
Judges Comment: This image is dark and dramatic. The heavy burn around the edges isn't bothersome and keeps you wondering how this was shot: a mirror, hole in the wall or simply the photographer's vision for the image.
Judges Comment: The juxtaposition of the arms give a sense of action while the soft and light toning compliments the serene mood of the bride. The elbow in the right lower corner is a bit distracting and could use a midtone burn.
Judges Comment: The warm saturated walls and killer shadows provide graphic elements throughout that keep the image interesting and inviting.
Judges Comment: Between the man in the foreground, the couple in the middle, the bride's dress and the bride getting ready reflected in the mirror, it's a lot to take in for one image. The photographer was rewarded by observing and waiting for all of the elements to come together. The image would be stronger and easier to read if the lampshade and surrounding area was toned down.
Judges Comment: We like the graphic elements and angle of this image. The image could be cropped a little off the left side to reduce the amount of white and further throw the bride to left of center. The crop would also help accent the radiating lines.
Judges Comment: LOL! We like the funny moment as the bride scarfs some food while getting prepped. Try converting this image to a b&w and put a light vignette on the entire image. It may help the viewer get to the bride easier and stay with her instead of being drawn to the brown dresses in the background.
Judges Comment: If the guy on the far right is indeed the groom, good seeing by the photographer to bring the two major players of the day together in one shot. There is also a lot going on as the bride gets ready on the left side of the frame. The grandmother's face really makes this image sing!
Judges Comment: The image would be ho hum without the grandmother (and her sweet pose) in the background. The photographer used a subtle texture (you may want to erase the texture on the bride's skin) and a warm tone to further the sense of anticipation.
Judges Comment: This is a really nice moment that begs for a closer camera position. A few steps closer and slightly lower would clean up the background and keep the viewer focused on the moment.
Judges Comment: There's a lot of energy within this cheerful moment between the bride and bridesmaids. The fun body language shows that the photographer was aware of filling the frame when they captured the moment. A slight crop off the top would greatly help this image.
Judges Comment: Strong graphic elements help and hinder this frame. Capturing the mist is a nice moment but the lampshade in the background distracts from the foreground action. One step to the photographer's right and instantly, the background is clean.
Judges Comment: The emotion between the bride and her mother makes for a great moment. The vignette is too strong and draws attention to the treatment versus the moment. The image would read quicker if the background was one even warm tone.
Judges Comment: A good camera angle and complimentary color range keep you in this image. The large dark area in the lower third of the frame needs a good crop.
Judges Comment: This is a nice image that makes us wonder, how did it look from the other side? The vignette feels too heavy and the dress would benefit from being toned down.
