Ring Details: Entries that depict shots of the rings, either set-up and controlled by the photographer or as they were found.
Judges Comment: We like the symbolic nature of this image as well as the strong composition. The shallow depth of focus and the fact that the lock and chain are so weathered nicely contrast the shiny new rings.
Judges Comment: The graphic nature and quality of artificial light make this a very interesting ring detail. The hint of color, along with the shadows, successfully lead your eye to the rings.
Judges Comment: Adding a little bit of environment to the detail of the rings tells another part of the bride and groom's wedding story. Whether the couple was married at a vineyard or not, this image is refreshing and a pleasure to view. Nicely done!
Judges Comment: Composing on a diagonal forces your eye to dance across the image and allows us to see the cuts of the diamond. A good use of a macro lens with shallow depth of field and strong light completes this image.
Judges Comment: Clean and colorful. We like the fact that the rings are nestled within one another and the gold color tones that bounce off of the rings make them a little hard to find. This is a good thing as not every image has to be a super-fast read.
Judges Comment: A good use of location makes you work to find the rings in this image. Nice seeing by the photographer to find a location that challenges your eye. (We're going to store this one away for the future!)
Judges Comment: Another good use of your surroundings when photographing the rings. The image wash, muted colors and sharp vertical crop all come together to complete this image.
Judges Comment: Salt and peppa' here! We like the off-center composition and blue duo-tone treatment. The playful use of salt and pepper as props is a cute idea. The dark, graphic nature of the image almost makes the rings disappear but once spotted, the image works well.
Judges Comment: Warm mocha tones contrast well with the bright rings. A good use of background moves your eye through the image from front to back. The little bright area in the upper right corner of the frame is distracting and you may want to think about cropping a little off the bottom of the image.
Judges Comment: Another good use of props to show off the rings. The hot spot on the man's wedding band is a bit distracting and could be easily fixed with a highlight burn (5-10% stroke exposure).
Judges Comment: We really like the selective focus of this ring image (lensbaby?). The bright colors and good use of petals make the rings look like they're part of the flower. It's visually interesting and a bit of a challenge for the eye.
Judges Comment: Simple, elegant with a twist of blue. The crystal clear sharpness of the diamond is set off by the cold blue toning of the image. The rings are arranged in an interesting pattern and invites you to look keep looking at the image.
Judges Comment: Using a human as the 'prop' for the ring shot is a nice way of showing it off. It's a cool, carefree image. The dark area to the left of his hand unbalances the bright feel of the image.
Judges Comment: Goofy and fun, the smiley face will put a smile on your face as you look at this image. The concept is strong but the execution could have been a little better. The rings are too hot in some places and don't have enough light in others but overall a strong concept.
Judges Comment: An alluring image that makes you want to figure out what the rings are sitting in and how the image was toned. The movement throughout the image works well and the overall red tone helps to create drama within the frame.
Judges Comment: This image achieves a clean and simple look without adding too many props or lighting techniques. The bands suspended on the ribbon seem like they are floating in the air. It's a simple solution that all of us can use in a pinch when looking to shoot the rings during the wedding day.
Judges Comment: Using the Kisses is a cute concept and makes for fun props to work with. We wish the photographer would have played around with it a little more and not been so heavy on the burn and vignette. Unfortunately, you see the treatment before you see the image. It's a good concept that can be used over and over until perfected.
Judges Comment: A little off-balance but nice seeing by the photographer to find something to hang the ring on. It'll be an excellent image for use in a book design but as a stand-alone image, the bottom 2/3rds of the frame is overwhelming the rest of the content.
