AG|WPJA Q4 2007 CONTEST
Getting Ready: Entries which spontaneously capture the prepping, grooming, arranging, outfitting, and anticipation before the ceremony.
Judges Comment: This is one of our favorite images of the entire contest this quarter. The photographer shot a strong graphically-focused image then used a texture/overlay and dark toning to finish the image. Well done!
Judges Comment: Sometimes blur and movement can help emit energy and joy to an already fun moment. Our only suggestion: tone down the lower left-hand corner (her dress) and lighten the bride's face.
Judges Comment: A strong angle, dark toning and lots of grain accent this interesting, off-beat moment. The photographer's use of every corner of the frame keeps your eye moving throughout the image, trying to figure out what’s going on. In the bottom right corner, a drink is being offered up from someone and it’s interesting to try and figure out where exactly that person is sitting.
Judges Comment: Nice moment and composition by the photographer. It’s great that they looked around the dressing area, found and framed up an image and waited for it to happen.
Judges Comment: The toning, blurring and blue tones accentuate the movement within the image as the bride gets ready. Excellent framing by the photographer and good exposure, picking up enough light to keep some detail in her dress.
Judges Comment: Natural window light is a beautiful source for mood and setting. This is a really nice scene setter as the bride prepares for her wedding day.
Judges Comment: Kooky and fun, we like the balance and ruby-red mini Christmas trees that mimic the hair dryers on the bottom of the image.
Judges Comment: Great eye and toning by the photographer to bring this image together. The dark tones and reflection add dimension and accentuate the entire scene.
Judges Comment: Many brides feel the stress of the wedding day and it’s always fun to capture those moments. The photographer framed this image well by showing the unaware bridesmaids in the background as the bride relieves some stress in the foreground.
Judges Comment: The graphic light cuts up the image and leads you down to the action at the bottom of the frame. Granted, if printed, the image would need to be a monster to read what’s going on. We like how the photographer surveyed the situation first, then executed second.
Judges Comment: The photographer worked this image well by smoothing the skin and giving it a great 50's studio look. It’s a small moment within the story of the day and the framing and quality of light really help this image.
Judges Comment: Goofy, jazzy brides are always fun to shoot and this one looked to be full of fun and surprise. Nice framing but we don’t like the additional bridesmaid coming out of the bride's head in the reflection. We suggest toning down the arms and highlight areas (bridesmaid) in the reflection.
Judges Comment: A classic frame that could benefit from a crop. The eye wanders a bit to find the focal point of the image and cropping a little off the top could help stop the wandering.
Judges Comment: The composition, angles and warm tones make this image sing. Try cropping out the black line across the top of the image. It is distracting.
Judges Comment: What a funny image, dual eyelash curlers! The shadowy figures holding the curlers lead you into the bride's funny face where you just can’t stop looking at the strange scene. The background burning is uneven and leaves portions of the frame 'glowing'. Even out those backgrounds and you'll have a great image.
Judges Comment: The bride almost gets lost among all of the technology and the image could benefit from cropping some off of the top and bottom of the image. Crop this to a strong horizontal and the bride would pop.
Judges Comment: Nice angle by the photographer and a quirky look at getting ready. It’s always good to look around and search out images when none of the main events are happening.
