Getting Ready: Entries which spontaneously capture the prepping, grooming, arranging, outfitting, and anticipation before the ceremony.
Judges Comment: The photographer used available light to start the image, then added some heavy burning to focus and complete their vision. This is really what AG is all about, shooting your concept and refining it in post production. Congrats to the photographer for seeing how the light was falling as well as understanding how the image could be completed.
Judges Comment: Rule of thirds sure works for this image as the groom has a blessing before the ceremony. It's a lovely image that respects and captures the moment. We like the hint of curtain detail; it helps push your eye back to the moment. Without the curtain detail, your eye could easily float off and out of the image.
Judges Comment: This warmed, toned B&W image strips away any outside colors that may distract from experiencing the moment as it unfolds. The third hand raises our curiosity. Nice moment!
Judges Comment: A nice moment between mother and bride and congrats to the photographer for not being afraid to get close and personal. We'd suggest cropping out the bridesmaid on the left.
Judges Comment: Composition and balance make this a sweet image. The bride in the center of the frame is the focus but your eye bounces between the two light sources until you land on the bride in the door frame. Good eye!
Judges Comment: A nice moment, fresh, light and airy! Our only suggestion is cropping to the chair on the left side of the frame.
Judges Comment: It's refreshing to see a cool image of the groom! A nice moment that needs less vignette; the bottom right dark corner pulls you away from the action.
Judges Comment: "Suck it in" is what most brides do when they first put on their dress. This image captures that moment perfectly! We'd suggest cropping the image from both the left and right sides of the frame.
Judges Comment: The guys don't seem to get much coverage and it's good to see photographers out there capturing their moments as well. The composition, laughter filled moment and muted tones make this image a top ten winner.
Judges Comment: This eye-teaser stopped us when looking through all of the Getting Ready entries. The mirror makes this image look even more vertical as the reflection of the ceiling is layered within and behind the mirror. A gradual burn from the top of the frame to just above her head would make the bride pop.
Judges Comment: We love the creativity put into this image! The cross-processed tones give this image a movie still feel.
Judges Comment: A little surprise in the lower left corner takes this image beyond a "reflection" photo. Good seeing and sense of timing by the photographer. The soft tones and subtle vignette keep your eye focused on the right side of the frame until your eye is surprised by the face in the smaller mirror.
Judges Comment: There's so much going on in this frame that we're not sure what to take in first. It's fun to study the entire image and see all of the moments happening at once. The image could benefit by cropping from both the top and bottom of the frame along with a slight burn to the top right corner.
Judges Comment: Nice sense of timing that successfully captured this bride's anticipation. The selective focus and strong use of burning and blurring around the edges really makes her pop.
Judges Comment: The image evokes a vintage feel that could have been captured decades ago. The texture draws a bit too much attention to itself and would look better if the opacity was reduced by 20-30%.
Judges Comment: This is the quirky one of the group; good seeing by the photographer to catch this funny moment. The kid's face is interesting but add the Virgin Mary hanging above him and you've got an interesting frame.
Judges Comment: The bride's dress and the veil movement make her the focal point of this image even though she is dwarfed by the huge room. The warm tones of the room compliment her red dress and the subtle overlay give this image a "painted" feel. Was the bride's dress really red?
Judges Comment: The joy radiates from this bride as she checks her super-cool veil. The simple background and warm toning make this image all about her excitement and joy.
Judges Comment: The heavy vignette mimics the plates hanging on the wall by reinforcing the circular shape. Since the bride is looking off camera, the vignette prevents your eye from wandering. We'd suggest cropping out the black object in the bottom left hand corner of the frame.
Judges Comment: This image has positive energy and her eyes show her happiness. A slightly higher camera angle would lessen the attention to her nostrils and keep you focused on her eyes.
