Reception: Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges Comment: We love it when we feel like we're right in the middle of the party and this image doesn't disappoint. The expressions and excellent composition capture a great party in progress.
Judges Comment: Wow, what an interesting image! We love the shadow play on the ceiling as the party gets underway. The guy on the right side of the frame is just enough to ground your eye and keep it from getting lost in the shadows.
Judges Comment: This is a wonderful capture as the couple enter their reception. Small suggestion: try cropping out half of the light sources from the left side of the frame.
Judges Comment: Way to go using all of the available lights to make this image feel like the couple are rock stars! The placement of the lights works just perfectly as the cake is lit well without any flares shining across it. The lights make the couple's star-studded kiss seem even more special.
Judges Comment: The photographer captured a great moment as the bride is whisked into the air and the couple seems as if they are floating across the dance floor in a sea of stars. We'd suggest cropping at least 1/3 off from the bottom of the frame.
Judges Comment: This is a simple yet elegant moment captured during the father/daughter dance. The black point seems a bit strong and we'd like to see more separation in the father's tux.
Judges Comment: What a great moment! Thankfully there is a little spill flash on the background to light the girls as they go for the flowers. We like the punchy color and great use of off-camera strobe.
Judges Comment: When the party is over and the guests have left, if you stick around, sometimes, just sometimes you get to capture beautiful moments like this one. The toning complements the sense of place and adds to the elegance of the image.
Judges Comment: Usually we shoot the entrance to see the couple's faces but this is a good use of the long veil to capture the entrance from behind. Good thought process by the photographer.
Judges Comment: Joys and tears surround weddings and the moment they both come together is a great one to capture. The tilt of the lens makes you feel as if you're in a swirl of emotion. Great frame!
Judges Comment: How many photographers can you count? 7, 8, 9? It's quite a frenzy as the couple is photographed during their first dance but the one photographer who shot it from the best angle captured the whole scene. Kudos for marching against the pack!
Judges Comment: This is a funky flowing image from the bouquet toss and we like it! A small crop from the left hand side would alleviate the distraction in the lower left hand corner.
Judges Comment: That's a lot of birdseed - hope she emptied her dress after this one. Good catch by the photographer. It will make a funny ender in their wedding book. Small suggestion: burn down the man on the left as he's competing with the bride.
Judges Comment: Raw moments captured during weddings are not always easy to find. This groom let it all hang out and fortunately the photographer was there to record the event. Tone down the highlights a bit and you have a great image!
Judges Comment: The photographer's perspective and exposure give us a unique view of the reception. The image feels a bit dark and heavy on the left side and could be easily fixed with a slight crop. Good eye!
Judges Comment: Frolicking little girls are present at most weddings and these two sure put on a show. The overlay and washed out toning add interesting elements to the image.
Judges Comment: This fun and energetic image quickly conveys the excitement on the dance floor.
Judges Comment: A nice moment that would have placed higher if the hand wasn't so blown. Shooting close subjects with flash can be tough and the best solution is getting your strobe off-camera. In this situation, firing the flash from high and to the right of the subject would have alleviated the hot area.
Judges Comment: Good seeing by the photographer to bring the couple and cake together in one shot. Nice camera tilt to keep the bride's entire dress in the frame.
Judges Comment: A nice moment that needs a little more image finessing. While we like the pale color palette, there are too many "bright" spots throughout the frame that compete with the subjects.
