Details: "Details" images are tighter shots on some of the day’s textures including clothes, rings, linens, flowers and faces.
Judges Comment: Spontaneous and whimsical best describes this image as the bride walks through the city streets. The angle and framing help set the scene and tell us part of her wedding story. The slightly cool black and white also gives the image a crisp feel, one of freshness and anticipation.
Judges Comment: A unique and interesting detail of a guest at the wedding. Good catch by the photographer and one that we can all keep an eye out for in upcoming weddings. The rich tones and striking red tie help to make the subject stand out in the glass. Small suggestion: crop out the chair in the lower right corner.
Judges Comment: Wow, what an interesting image that takes a moment to absorb. The reflections, overlay and cool blue toning breathe curiosity into this beautiful image.
Judges Comment: Congrats on getting in the middle of the scene and capturing this detail. The vignette really helps to focus your eye on the bow being tied.
Judges Comment: We love the color combination of the boutonniere and tie, good styling by the planner (or bride) and a great job by the photographer to recognize and capture it. The overlay really adds another layer to the image and gives it a bit of grit. Small suggestion: erase back the piece of texture located in the top center of the frame.
Judges Comment: Alison must love this image of her dress at the reception. It's a unique angle that you wouldn't catch unless you're looking for it.
Judges Comment: Weird, fun and all together funky as this bride dances with her cupcakes : ) Not all details have to be little macro shots. They can also be slices of life.
Judges Comment: Love the lack of head on the cake stylist as it mimics the unseen heads of the superhero's cake-toppers. By burning in the background you're quickly forced to focus on the action.
Judges Comment: As photographers, we all know what this is but the lighting and toning of this image make it stand out among the rest. The shallow depth of field helps to perpetuate the idea that the buttons keep going and going almost like a long road. The toning of the image, with a hard vignette and a bright light area at the top, helps lead the eye back and forth diagonally across the image.
Judges Comment: Good moment-driven detail of the bride's flowers. The photographer also sneaked in part of the dress, earring and veil to finish this off-kilter image. We like how the background is blown to further highlight the flowers.
Judges Comment: Sometimes it's the little details during the ceremony that can tell a story. We'd suggest a slight crop from both the top and bottom of the frame.
Judges Comment: We like the contrast between the soft pastels and warm tones that nicely complement one another. A nice, clean and often overlooked detail.
Judges Comment: The photographer took a chance by focusing on the candle instead of the couple. It's a good moment-driven detail that also tells a story.
Judges Comment: The angles throughout this image are further defined by the monochromatic tone used to focus your eye on the champagne glass. It's an interesting and layered image that repeats itself through each person's body language.
Judges Comment: It's kind of cool seeing the guests in their wedding attire only from the waste down. A slight crop off of the bottom paired with a subtle vignette and you’re set!
Judges Comment: Yum! We expected to see more wedding cake entries in the Details category but unfortunately not many were entered. Who cares about the strawberry? (ok, ok, it does provide a good entry point) It's really all about the chocolate! Interesting use of the Photoshop blur tool or perhaps a Lensbaby. We'd suggest burning down the hot, white area to the left of the strawberry.
Judges Comment: Good use of a wide angle that successfully accentuates the repetitive round shapes throughout the frame. The image seems a bit unbalanced and perhaps a crop down from the top and right would help.
Judges Comment: This is a fresh take on photographing flowers. The overlay gives a nice texture and watercolor feel to the image.
Judges Comment: Well, we had to keep this one in. It's a unique detail that makes you laugh. We'd love to see this photographer’s website - they obviously have a sense of humor!
Judges Comment: Nice camera angle and good use of off-camera strobe make this detail pop.
