Details (Found): Entries that encompass tighter shots of the day's small slices AS THEY WERE FOUND.
Judges Comment: One little teardrop speaks volumes. We like the off-center framing and complementary white space. Outstanding!
Judges Comment: Powerful and storytelling, this detail shows the anticipation of the ceremony to come. Beautiful frame!
Judges Comment: The umbrella becomes the entry point and immediate detail in this interesting image. The image would only improve if it was cropped from the right side to just past the colored stripes.
Judges Comment: This wonderful camera angle creates a fresh perspective from one of those ‘every wedding’ images. Great eye!
Judges Comment: The pretty underside of a wedding dress mimics the lines of a flower. The top left corner vignette is too strong and pulls your eye away from the dress. This image would look great with the current toning minus the vignette.
Judges Comment: Somewhere in our subliminal, mirrors are chanting "look at me, shoot me." This photographer heard that little voice and captured a great frame. The black point is too strong overall which quickly creates a blotchy skin tone. We'd suggest cropping the image really tight so just the three reflections fill the frame.
Judges Comment: This a good example of capturing the other, non-literal details during a wedding. Our eyes fight between the woman and the dark head in the top left-hand corner. A slightly higher camera angle would have framed this woman against the bride and cleaned up the entire image.
Judges Comment: Interesting lines and good use of available light introduce a new view of the groom's preparation. The image feels uneven and our eyes quickly saw the hot spot in the middle of the frame. Tone down the woodwork evenly and the focus will shift to the silhouette.
Judges Comment: A great use of artificial light punches this detail off of our monitor. Well done!
Judges Comment: Great perspective and exceptional use of shallow focus. Give this a try: crop the image from the right to just past the woman to the right of the groom. The image transforms itself to a square and the ring no longer looks tiny.
Judges Comment: The bouquet creates a clear point of entry that flows nicely up her back and into the branches. Another image that could benefit from a simple crop. We'd suggest cropping out the competing flowers on the right side of the frame. Now you've created a nice curve, from bouquet to back to branches.
Judges Comment: Cake - Lots of Cake! We like the interesting brush work and wonder what the image would have looked like if the technique was applied to the entire image.
Judges Comment: The shallow depth makes these lashes slice through the image. The tones on her face are a bit too hot and distract from the sweet lashes.
Judges Comment: This is one of those almost images. We're intrigued with this frame because it challenges us to think, read all four corners then draw our own conclusion about the image. We think this image would read quicker if the blacks weren't so blocked up. More visible detail in the bottom right-hand corner would provide us with more information about the subject and overall scene.
Judges Comment: This infrared image is so darn close! The image would have placed higher had the top of the steeple not merged and disappeared into the clouds. When approaching a shot like this, take a few frames, then turn your back and walk away. Give yourself a moment to clear your brain's creative cache, then approach the shot again. Repeat this process and you'll give yourself several variations to choose from.
Judges Comment: A little humor goes a long way when photographing the doggy party. Bending those knees would have cleaned up the entire frame and brought the subjects closer together.
Judges Comment: Many couples design signature drinks and this is a nice frame. From first glance, it's hard to tell if we're viewing a cup of soup, a cocktail or perhaps something else all together. The dark areas are too heavy and this image needs to provide just a tad more information. A slightly lower camera angle would tell us what we're viewing and still maintain the cool mood of the overall image.
Judges Comment: Sometimes taking a calculated risk pays off. We applaud the photographer for capturing a unique perspective from the cake cutting. We'd suggest adding some punch to this image through additional contrast and saturation.
Judges Comment: A nice image that could be great with some better toning and a crop. We'd suggest cropping the image from the top to just above her eyes, toning down the face and dodging the face highlights in the champagne glass.
Judges Comment: The pink shoes stand out in the sea of dreary colors. We do like the repeating steps but try cropping off a bit at the bottom so they don't become the main focus of the image. As is, your eye locks on the pink shoes and has a hard time taking in the rest of the frame. Also, taking one step to the right would have made the bride in the top left-hand corner appear.
