Reception: Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges Comment: This was one of the strongest images in the entire contest. Well done. The light and sky are dramatic and choosing to shoot this from behind with the veil is a really nice touch.
Judges Comment: Another very dramatic image. The arms and hands behind the smoke and the faces coming through the smoke create a bizarre but powerful image.
Judges Comment: I really liked this image. It has a very 70's feel and portrays the true party side of a wedding. It is quite clear that the alcohol was freely flowing. There are a lot of nice touches. The bare feet, the holding of the leg and the tongue out all add to the complexity.
Judges Comment: The selective focus and movement work very well here as does the sepia effect which really helps create an ambiance rather than just a "digital effect". I might have retouched the reflections causing the glare in the lower right as it tends to draw the eye away from the subject but this is still a very nice image.
Judges Comment: The angle that the photographer chose really helps this image. A nice moment which is pretty unique. The clouds, especially in the reflection, help to create contrast and texture. There is vignetting occurring from the wide angle lens which should have been corrected but this is yet another really strong image.
Judges Comment: An image that is truly about the moment. Everything comes together here. The wiping of the tear, the glasses, the woman with the mic and the gazing eyes on the gentleman on the right all work together. The toning of this image is an additional touch that works here. The only improvement I could suggest would be to retouch the reflection on the upper left side which competes with the woman making the speech.
Judges Comment: Very nice image. The moon adds a nice touch. Would suggest bringing down the highlights on the building but still a very nice shot.
Judges Comment: This is yet another very strong image. The photographer clearly worked this wedding and the results are obvious. This was not your "typical" wedding and the photographer did not bring back typical shots. Kudos.
Judges Comment: The photographer did a nice job taking the typical ‘leaving the wedding’ scene and turning it into something more. The posture of the groom and bride add humor. The only suggestion would be to retouch the sparkler coming out of the head of the groom.
Judges Comment: This is a very nice moment captured very well. I like the tone of the image but I am not thrilled with the spots which I presume are created to give an "aged" effect. The ones in the upper left look like sensor spots and the little black ones just don't really work. This image has what it really needs without added qualities.
Judges Comment: A nice execution of a shot that we have all seen. Instead of just some bubbles or flowers thrown in the air, the photographer takes this theme and ventures further. The spotlight creating a circular frame and the bubbles surrounding that frame really work. The added touch of the refraction and reflections creating hints of color in the bubbles adds an additional touch. The focus is also on the bubbles and not on the couple and I find that to be a nice touch although I don't know if it was intentional.
Judges Comment: This image is simple and clean and it also caused me to do a triple take. My first impression was that this was a man in a wedding dress seated facing the camera. On the second look I realized that the buttons are clearly the back of the dress and it is simply a man with his arms around the woman. Either way it is simple and interesting and well done.
Judges Comment: Very funny image nicely done. The left side (looking at the image) of the guy dancing starts to blend into the background a bit too much, especially by the feet, and could use a little more separation. The image might also benefit from a crop on the right side coming in tighter to the woman in purple and the left side as well as the top. This would put more emphasis on the key subjects which are clearly the guy dancing and the lady in purple.
Judges Comment: The woman's hand says it all. Quite a funny image. I don't know if the woman is simply holding the man in an odd way or really grabbing his butt but the scene is funny nonetheless. The angle, the tilt and punched green all work. I don't know if I would include the wooden structure on the front corner. I also would suggest bringing down the whites a little more in the dress to give a bit more detail.
Judges Comment: Another very funny image. I wish there was a little more detail in the woman's hair and along the back but all in all well done.
Judges Comment: A nice moment and the motion of the rose petals adds a nice touch.
Judges Comment: The two ladies are really nice and the moment is well documented. I am bothered by the arm on the right side and would suggest toning down the flowers on the table on the left.
Judges Comment: A nice image and well executed but a little bit contrived looking. That said, I don't know if there was really anything more that the photographer could have done under the circumstances.
Judges Comment: A very humorous moment captured very well. I wish there was better balance with the flash and the ambient and I would like to see correction for the slightly out-of-kilter horizon line.
Judges Comment: The composition is very nice and the moment is nice. The only thing that bothers me is that the image is not critically sharp and I would love to see a little bit more of her face.
