Engagement Portrait: Photographs that demonstrate the photographer's ability to create an interesting environmental portrait of their clients prior to the wedding day.
Judges Comment: A very different and really outstanding image. Simple and excellent. I love the light, the framing and everything about this.
Judges Comment: Another excellent image but totally bizarre. Technically this is very well done. I love the desaturated split-toned look and this one is very well. The ring is a nice touch as is the expression of the woman which can be seen in the rear view mirror.
Judges Comment: Fantastic concept and well executed. I played with a crop on this image and feel that it is stronger when the top and bottom are cropped, creating more of a panoramic effect. The pan really draws the eye to the couple running towards each other. Again, this is another very strong image.
Judges Comment: Strong image and again very different from all the rest. Very strong design and graphic appeal. Great use of the architecture and great use of the light. Nice job.
Judges Comment: A really nice way to illustrate this. Very well done and very different. The only thing I would suggest is to change the arm in the last step on the woman before they meet. Currently, her arm extends into the couple and I think it would be stronger if there was just a little space.
Judges Comment: This is another image which was quite different and done quite well. I like the feel of this image and the composition. I am not crazy about the marks on the surface and think that the image can stand on it's own without the added effects.
Judges Comment: One more excellent image and one more which was indeed very different. This one works particularly well.
Judges Comment: A nice journalistic image. This is very well executed. Kudos...love the ring in the hands behind the man and love the crop.
Judges Comment: Strong graphic appeal and great color. The only problem with this image is that the couple is a little stagnant looking but I still like this a lot.
Judges Comment: The lines in this image are fantastic and create strong graphic appeal. The yellow and orange add to this. Overall, another truly dynamic, strong image in this category.
Judges Comment: The couple is very strong in front of the camera. Their faces are fantastic and I love the setting. The lipstick on the chest is a nice design touch. Well done.
Judges Comment: The waterfall really creates a great graphic. The pattern from the water is a stronghold for this image. The kids are a nice touch. I am a little bothered by the couple, especially the woman who is looking down, but still a very nice image.
Judges Comment: I love the feel of this image and I really like the way the warm tones work here. The birds are great and the couple running is very nice. I am not sure that the water in the foreground helps this image. I think it may be stronger without the water but again a very nice image.
Judges Comment: The high contrast works well here and I love the eye on the woman which really stands out.
Judges Comment: Very graphic and well executed. My only issue is that there is a bit of excessive noise which could be easily corrected.
Judges Comment: The bare feet and the white dress help to make this a sensual image. The lens choice which throws the background out of focus was also a nice element. All in all, this is a very clean, simple and elegant image.
Judges Comment: The warm tones here are a nice touch and I love the balance with the bicycles on both sides.
Judges Comment: Again, the balance here is great. The dogs on each side are a nice touch. I wish the dog on the right was in the same position as the dog on the left and I wish the horizon line was either straight or more out of whack.
Judges Comment: I like this a lot but I wish it were a little tighter. The key to this image is the couple and what they are doing. You don't need to see everything else in the background for this image to work. If it were tighter, it would be even stronger.
Judges Comment: I love the backlighting here. I wish the glare was cleaned up on the left side and that the guy’s head was not intersected by the step. If the photographer had gotten just a little higher, the image would have been much cleaner. Still the image has a nice feeling too and I think it works.
