Ceremony: Images that capture guests and participants throughout pre-ceremony, vow-exchange, and receiving line activity.
Judges Comment: A beautiful, yet simple photograph. The bride’s joy resonates in her face. The texture of the veil and the warm tones makes this work. It’s a moment in time set aside to enjoy later. It’s also a very good use of a long lens at a wedding ceremony.
Judges Comment: This was a great job by the photographer who turned around and looked at what was happening behind him/her. The crowd of onlookers all trying to get a picture is a great moment. The expressions are terrific, especially the man with the camera in the lower left. This is a really fun photograph, toned well.
Judges Comment: A joyful image made even better with the de-saturated toning. All the colors work together to make this strong. You can feel the excitement with the thrown flowers and celebratory smiles.
Judges Comment: This is a very different moment. The bride and groom are obviously crammed into a very small car and are being assaulted with air horns by the wedding party. The high angle looking down into the sunroof captures their reaction. The toning dramatizes the important parts of the untraditional image.
Judges Comment: You can feel the laughter and hear the giggles in this colorful image. This could have been a very busy image but its framed and toned so well that it reads quickly.
Judges Comment: The image works very well in black and white because it’s so busy. You can see the rain and all the umbrellas but the focus is still on the bride and groom. This was a good job by the photographer reacting in a difficult situation.
Judges Comment: The bright colors really pop, from the bricks on the wall to the red flower petals to the aqua dress. It’s a busy photo but it all works well together and the bride stands out. Her smile is as bright as the colors.
Judges Comment: A sophisticated yet subtle image. This has painterly qualities to it. It’s a quiet image but still captures an intriguing moment as the young boy lounges on the pillow at the bride’s feet.
Judges Comment: The pastel toning and the darkened edges of this photograph help capture the beauty of the scene. The photographer made a choice to shoot from behind thus using the leading lines of the hallway to draw you into the image.
Judges Comment: By throwing the crowd out of focus, the kissing bride and groom are especially highlighted. The cropping and toning are also intriguing.
Judges Comment: The vintage-style of toning matches the wedding party attire. This could have been shot somewhere in Europe in the first part of the 20th century. It has a very elegant feel to it.
Judges Comment: The beautiful body language of the bride makes this photo. She is obviously experiencing a special moment. Tighter cropping would have made this a much better image.
Judges Comment: This is a nice use of a high angle to capture the groomsmen walking toward the ceremony. The warm toning gives the image a very good feel. The long shadows from the low sun add more dimension.
Judges Comment: This is a fun, bubbly image that works well. The bride is the center of attention, which makes this photo successful.
Judges Comment: The photographer captured a great moment as the joyful bride left the church while heart petals fly.
Judges Comment: A beautiful moment. This photo is all about body language. The combination of the grace in the bride’s arms and the priest’s outstretched arms is compelling. A tighter crop, taking out the priest’s face, might have also worked.
Judges Comment: A nicely framed image. It’s a soft and poignant picture beautifully done. There are no distractions. The toning adds to the feel of the photograph.
Judges Comment: This is a good way to shoot something different. The crop of the photograph — taking off the bridesmaids’ heads and focusing on their dresses — makes this work. The toning makes the colors in the image radiate.
Judges Comment: This isn’t just a moment between the bride and the groom. Even the priest becomes a part of the scene. It’s a joyful but untraditional snapshot.
Judges Comment: The tilting of the camera and the framing creates interesting tension in this image. The toning helps keep the bride the center of attention.
