Reception: Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges Comment: The vibrant colors paired with the moment of the kiss help make this an exquisite photograph. The image pops off the screen at you.
Judges Comment: This could be a scene out of a movie from the 1950s. The de-saturation of the colors help create an appealing mood. The image creates a feeling of wonder. It’s beautiful.
Judges Comment: The glare of the spotlight into the photographer’s lens helps make an evocative kissing image. Softened colors and toning bring you right to the most important part of the image — the kiss. The bride and groom are in their own world and the photographer was able to capture that.
Judges Comment: Very dynamic framing brings the spotlight across the image to the couple. Blue, white and a bit of magenta make a simplistic, yet effective, color palette. Nice moment.
Judges Comment: This is a simple image that works because everything is in the right place. The kissing bride and groom are perfectly framed by flowers, candles and arches. The subtle toning creates a good feel to the image.
Judges Comment: An interesting moment shared by two gentlemen at a reception. It works because of the symmetry of their gestures and the warm tones. A better crop would have helped.
Judges Comment: Successful post-production toning made this photo work. By darkening the background, the dancing couple jumps off the image. The spotlight helps create a good separation of the couple from the crowd.
Judges Comment: A great casual moment. It shows the ambience of their surroundings but focuses mainly on the laughing bride and guests. A good job of de-saturating the colors and using existing outdoor light.
Judges Comment: Silhouettes pleasantly frame the image and put the dancing bride at the center of attention. The sweep of her dress and her elegant arm movement are captured with the low angle of the camera. A creatively done image.
Judges Comment: The photographer chose a great angle to capture the form of the group dance. The bride’s joyful face resonates out of the center of the frame. The selective darkening of the image brings the dancers’ forms to the front.
Judges Comment: Clearly a photographer who knows how to work with existing light. This image of the bride dancing with her partner is moody — in a good way. The toning helps simplify the picture.
Judges Comment: A well-done image of a couple watching fireworks. The photographer was able to bring out the vibrancy of the fireworks and the color in the bride’s dress. Cropping in from the right would have helped the overall image.
Judges Comment: A wacky wedding moment. Why is he shirtless? The bride’s apparent apprehension adds to the intriguing moment. This shows some of the best shots at a wedding can be found in untraditional moments.
Judges Comment: A peak action shot of a guest dancing. The expressions are priceless. Cropping in from the left would have helped the image but it’s a great moment regardless.
Judges Comment: This nicely done photo shows you don’t always have to put people in the center of the frame. The negative space is filled with content. The vivid use of color definitely adds to the image.
Judges Comment: The photographer used a creative angle to make this celebration image work. The use of an extreme wide-angle lens and strobe helped capture the festive, colorful moment.
Judges Comment: There’s a lot going on but not being in color simplifies this high-spirited moment. It puts you in the middle of the dance. The tilt adds to the excitement.
Judges Comment: A quiet, but precious moment of a child holding the bride’s gown. The color toning and darkening of the edges simplifies the photo.
Judges Comment: A fun moment of men on the dance floor. The photo is made by the symmetry of the arms. Good job of capturing a variety of expressions.
Judges Comment: The gathering of men is a great moment. The comraderie shared by these friends is evident in their happy expressions.
