Kids (Being Kids): Entries of found moments depicting babies, children, and youth doing what they do best (kids being kids)!
Judges Comment: Well-composed. The whisper and the expression on the boy’s face make the photo. You can almost feel like what the girl is telling him is really important. The stark whites compliment the other subdued colors in the photo.
Judges Comment: A special moment between a bride and a young boy. The laughter and the flow of the veil combine to make a simple yet amusing image.
Judges Comment: An image we’ve seen at every wedding of a child asleep. But this picture was done quite well because the photographer got down low to the girl’s level. The stark overhead lighting and dark background help create a poignant scene.
Judges Comment: The “ah-ha” expression on the girl’s face creates a cherished moment. The toning works exceptionally well and there’s no clutter in the frame. It’s simple and real.
Judges Comment: The photographer captured a scene reminiscent of a “Weegee” photo from the 1940s. The children could easily be an older couple on the dance floor of a New York City nightclub. The selective darkening of the background brings out the main subjects.
Judges Comment: The expressive faces of the children coupled with the vibrant flowers in their hair make this image work. The photographer had to be scanning the church with a longer lens to catch this scene.
Judges Comment: This photo really says “kids being kids.” The wide variety of exuberant expressions make for a great photograph. Very nice in black and white.
Judges Comment: Just a really cool moment between two small children. The subtle toning brings out the different colors in the image. The expressive eyes of the girl add to the photo.
Judges Comment: The effective use of black and white and framing of the image make this work. The bored boy’s face stands out amongst the folded hands.
Judges Comment: The young ring bearer’s expression makes this photo compelling. The image is a little busy and could have been cropped tighter but the juxtaposition of the boy and the bride in the background are very effective.
Judges Comment: A modern Norman Rockwell moment as the young boy shoots a digital photo of the bride entering the church. The photographer got down low to the child’s level to get the moment. The other young boy peering over him helps complete the image.
Judges Comment: This is like a postcard moment with the perfectly attired children picking up rose petals. The de-saturated colors compliment the image.
Judges Comment: The bride and her young friend lean in to smell the flowers. The composition, along with the subtle toning, makes a pretty picture.
Judges Comment: The bride’s interaction with the four children makes for an interesting image. The variety of expressions makes the moment.
Judges Comment: This is a very “kid” moment. A tighter crop would have helped focus more the interaction with the children but a good moment nonetheless.
Judges Comment: The child with the balloons stands out in this image despite the crowd of people. The delightfulness on her face makes you focus just on her.
Judges Comment: The portable electronic device effectively lit the young girl’s face in this limo scene. The intense darkening of the rest of the image makes the girl prominent. It’s an interesting scene.
Judges Comment: The interaction between the woman and the upset child clearly makes the photo. The out-of-focus foreground helps frame the image.
Judges Comment: The use of duotone simplifies the image. A fun scene that could have worked for any age group but in this case it is a young boy and girl.
Judges Comment: A cute moment of the young boy framed by the groomsmen. He has a very intriguing expression in the image. Fun.
