Reception: Photographs that document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.
Judges Comment: Some will love this image. Some will hate it. There's not a lot of space in-between because an audaciously strong moment/situation/circumstance/event like this is going to bring pleasure or angst. But there is no escaping this moment.
Judges Comment: This image had light, mood and an amazingly flexible bride! I really liked how the photographer toned this picture to accentuate the color in the room and the mood of the event. I also like the photographer’s position for this picture. It is important to see the people sitting and watching – it adds to the theatrical quality of the image.
Judges Comment: A love the point of view from inside the car and the angle works well. You can see the expressions on the faces and I love the guy with the camera. Great detail and a very nice job...
Judges Comment: Gesture and spontaneity make this a very strong image. Good expressions and nice composition.
Judges Comment: Here's an image providing a "warm-fuzzy" moment set in retro 50's style. I thought it was a delightful moment executed well by the photographer.
Judges Comment: Love the movement, grain and toning which helps make this a very dramatic image.
Judges Comment: I thought this was good seeing by the photographer. The body language and her hair create a great abstract image.
Judges Comment: We've all seen the cake smash photo. In fact, I'd wager most of us have witnessed this odd "tradition." Personally, I've never understood the humor outside of "The 3 Stooges" comedies but I can recognize a good photograph. Nonetheless, it wasn't the bride and groom that made this a winner but rather that shocked girl at far right who seems to echo my own sentiments of, "Oh my."
Judges Comment: This is a striking image augmented by strong contrasts but the coup is found in the shadow behind the bride that mimics her outstretched arms.
Judges Comment: I loved the feeling of fluidity in this photo - the kinetic experience of dance and the embrace of celebratory love. This is one of the best reception photos I've seen.
Judges Comment: This is just a funny and well-composed image. Nice catch.
Judges Comment: Very humorous picture shot at the decisive moment. You have to wonder if this guy is going to get up after this.
Judges Comment: This has a nice story-telling moment. I like the feeling I get from seeing this couple together. Just a good photojournalism-style moment.
Judges Comment: Some images are pretty close to perfect in spite of my fervent belief that no image could meet such a stringent concept. But, of the many bride and groom dance images I've seen through the years, this one sails high for its lighting, composition and airy components.
Judges Comment: Again, another really nice moment. I think the composition / layering is also really nice on this picture.
Judges Comment: Good use of a fisheye lens to capture a nice moment. Graphic and very nice even light.
Judges Comment: If you look around this picture, every face adds to the image. It is a great, humorous moment captured by the photographer. Good decision to present the image in black and white – it really drew me to all the great faces, especially the bride.
Judges Comment: The color quality / color palate just kept me coming back to this image. I also like that the photographer composed the image so their hands are in the corner. I am drawn to that part of their relationship.
Judges Comment: This image is all about gesture and it works very well. Nice job of toning and nice composition.
Judges Comment: I've photographed bird releases similar to this but never with such an odd juxtaposition of onlookers. It's a minor point in this image, since the focal stage is the beautiful dove in flight. But I spent a long time looking at the faces in the background. They run the full gamut from delighted to apathetic - as though some have seen this sight a thousand times before. (I doubt that.)
