Judges Comment: It's not an easy image to obtain. I studied it for quite awhile trying to fathom all of the components fitting into the right place at the right time and ascertained that it was simply one of those great efforts by a photographer that resulted in an equally wonderful image.

Judges Comment: Fresh point of view. Great moment, framing and use of color.

Judges Comment: How funny can you get? Here is not only an extremely creative way to do a portrait shot but it is also a commentary on the new way we look at the world in the digital age.

Judges Comment: This is a seriously passionate image. It's a great moment executed with excellence.

Judges Comment: The surreal nature of this image made it stand out from the rest. The subtlety of color, the position of the individuals and the dramatic lighting give a new dimension to the concept of a portrait shot.

Judges Comment: Very clever composition.

Judges Comment: Though it tends to look like the scene from a Greek tragedy, the look on the couple’s faces shows that they are having fun. Their personality as a fun-loving couple comes across.

Judges Comment: What a fantastic image! It takes the viewer a moment or two to figure out what is going on but, unlike some photos, once you've "figured it out," it is no less tantalizing. Arranging the structure of these layers must have been a feat, but well worth it in the end.

Judges Comment: Very strong use of the environment.

Judges Comment: If a portrait is the subject, this is one of the most dramatic depictions of a person I have seen in a long time. The bride is but a highlight amidst the moody darkness of the image. A fantastic sense of lighting! She is beautiful without the need for makeup, jewelry or any of the other elements that can be distracting from the subject.

Judges Comment: Beautiful and ethereal despite the contrast to the bleak background.
