Judges Comment: This is a fascinating and memorable character study.

Judges Comment: Several of the images I picked in this category were chosen because they were surprises, unexpected moments. This was one of them. I loved the relationship between the child and the woman. The composition revealed great expressions – just a classic picture.

Judges Comment: Stupendous image. Exceptionally strong graphic and yet so simple. Great angle and the juxtaposition of the white and black is perfect. This may be my favorite image of the entire contest. Excellent!

Judges Comment: The moment was well done and the toning in this picture was lovely (also gorgeous light!). I felt this picture did a nice job putting a whole story in one photo.

Judges Comment: What made this image was her glance back. It is very powerful. The light is great, but it is her expression and body language that made this picture jump out at me early in the edit. Great catch.

Judges Comment: Nice graphic composition and toned color. The clouds and sky are dramatic and the border around this image really works well.
